With more than 40 golf courses within easy reach of the Marbella area, any Lady Golfers visiting here will be spoilt for choice. We at Ladies Golf Getaways are lucky enough to have played the majority of these courses for ourselves, and therefore are well placed to advise new Lady Golfers to the area, which courses they will most enjoy playing. Golf Courses all vary in their own challenging way, and we are pleased to help you to make your personal choices, which will depend on whether you ladies wish to walk, or take a buggy, do you like mountainous courses with mostly uneven lies, and lots of trees or nice flat courses with wide open fairways and plenty of water?
Santa Maria is a Favourite Course
With a lively Ladies Section that holds weekly competitions on a Tuesday. This is always popular with all our visitors, a mature course with spectacular views across the cork oak covered mountains, and far out across the Mediterranean to North Africa. Although there is plenty of water on this course, it does not generally trouble the ladies, who enjoy the manicured fairways. The front 9 holes climb gently to the highest point of the course, and then the back 9 fall back to the Club House.
The par 70 Course is not long; being 4657 metres from the ladies tees, and has 3 par 5 holes and 5 par 3 holes. With a very inviting 1st hole, SI 17, ladies should not encounter any trouble until reaching the 4th, which demands that you drive a straight ball, as the fairway landing area is very narrow. The views from the 11th tee are stunning, and from this elevated position the par 4 hole is surrounded by dense forest on the left, and water on the right, the pretty green is in front of a water fall. Another popular hole with the ladies is the pretty par 3 15th, which from the elevated tee drops down to a large green. All the way home you will be able to see the welcoming sight of the Chiringuito in front of you.
Rio Real Golf Course
Designed by the foremost Spanish golf architect Javier Arana. Opened in 1965, this 18 hole Par 72 course is one of the top 3 courses on the Costa del Sol and in 2002 was considered the most improved course of the year. Perfect for lady golfers of all levels, the course is situated in a beautiful valley with a great variety of trees, above all, pine and palm trees. The name comes from the Real River, which crosses the course in various places before flowing into the Mediterranean.
From the Ladies tees, the course measures 5321 metres, and is easily walk able for those who wish to. With many very pretty holes, enjoy the par 4 4th, which takes you right down to the edge of the beach, before the 5th has the breeze from the Mediterranean behind you. An elevated tee on the par 4 11th hole gives you a lovely view of the dog leg hole in front of you, before you reach the pretty par 3 12th which has the green well protected by water to the left, and O.O.B on the right. As you play up the very attractive 18th to a slightly elevated green, you will find yourselves back at Rio Real’s beautiful Club House where you can enjoy a drink or lunch, whilst watching the wonderful views around you.
Cabopino Golf
Set in a valley overlooking the Mediterranean and the lovely Port of Cabopino, this Par 71 course measures 4640 metres from the Ladies Tees. Only opened in 2001, this course has now matured nicely with the large greens and quite tight fairways in good condition. Plenty of umbrella pines cover the course, but also provide welcome shade from the hot sunshine. Once you reach the back 9 holes, plenty of water comes into play, with several greens protected by lakes and streams.
There are some very notable holes, in particular the Par 4 3rd, which from a very elevated tee, is 238m to the edge of the green. The Par 5 12th hole will ensure that you have a straight drive, to enable you to carry the lake with your second shot, on this dog leg to the right. A good 3rd shot should take you to a pretty undulating green that is well protected by bunkers. The very pretty Par 3 15th hole will need a drive of 123 metres to carry the lake onto a large green. At the end of 18 holes you will welcome the sight of the comfortable Club House, with it’s delightful views over the Mediterranean towards the north coast of Africa
